Discussion Overview

Feeling nervous before an interview is normal—racing heart, sweaty palms, self-doubt. But instead of cramming answers the night before, the game-changing approach is: research the company and prep a few stories that align with their mission and challenges. That shift in prep creates confidence.
The first interview was filled with memorized responses and uncertainty. But the next time, preparation focused on storytelling, research, and connection. That new approach not only landed the job but revealed a formula that works for any interview.
Memorization sounds robotic and can fall apart under pressure. But when you understand the company and share personal, relevant stories, you show your value in a natural and memorable way. Flexibility beats scripts every time.
It shows you’ve done your homework. If you can speak to their recent projects or pain points and align your experience with those areas, you immediately stand out as someone who adds value—not just fills a role.
Start strong: smile, make eye contact, offer a confident handshake, and give a sincere compliment or insight about the interviewer or company. It builds instant rapport and turns a formal interview into a real conversation.
Try: “What does success look like for you in the next six months?” This not only shows you care about outcomes—it gives you clarity on expectations and shows long-term thinking.
Well-thought-out questions show you're not just job-hunting—you’re evaluating how you can contribute. Asking about team dynamics, goals, and growth signals maturity and a collaborative mindset.
1. Research and prep 2–3 stories that show how you solve problems.
2. Make a strong first impression and build real connection.
3. End with thoughtful questions that reflect long-term interest and value.

00:59 welcome to career reshaped so picture this i'm preparing for my first
01:04 corporate interview the night before i'm cramming i'm googling questions
01:09 of common interview questions and memorizing the answers rookie mistake
01:14 right here's what i learned memorizing doesn't work what does
01:19 research and storytelling so next time i went for an interview instead of
01:24 cramming everything in the night before i spent time learning about the
01:27 company's mission recent projects and their challenges
01:32 then i crafted stories from my personal experience that aligned with what they
01:37 cared about i practice my stories and no i didn't
01:41 say them word for word because like i said
01:44 memorizing doesn't work but knowing your stories in and out helps you relay them
01:49 in a genuine and authentic way and also gets you to pick and choose the most
01:54 important parts of your story depending on the questions that you get asked so
01:59 here's the tip before your interview go beyond the position description look at
02:04 the company's website check their linkedin posts find recent articles
02:08 about them figure out what issues they might be having hurdles they need to
02:12 overcome then prepare two to three stories from
02:15 your experience that shows them how you can solve their problems

02:48 for tuning in when i walked into that interview i made sure to smile make eye
02:52 contact and have a firm handshake and genuinely complimented the hiring
02:57 manager i had said i saw the article you wrote on linkedin about leadership
03:01 trends it really resonated with me instantly the mood shifted in the room
03:06 the manager smiled and it felt like we had a genuine connection remember your
03:11 first impression matters more than you think practice
03:14 your handshake maintain good posture and prepare a genuine compliment or
03:19 observation about the interviewer or the company it's not about flattery it's
03:25 about connection building a rapport between you and them fast forward to the
03:30 end of the interview the hiring manager asked if i had any questions for them
03:35 and let me tell you this is your golden moment i had asked
03:40 what does success look like for you in the next six months
03:46 the manager paused thought about it yes you can pause and think about your
03:50 answers to your questions and said that's a great question
03:56 it gave me insight into the expectations of me and it also showed them that i was
04:01 serious about adding value to their organization and that i was thinking
04:06 long term always prepare a list of questions to ask at the end of the
04:10 interview focus on things like dynamics company
04:13 goals or success metrics it shows that you're thinking long term and not just
04:18 about landing any job and yes i set a list but that doesn't mean you ask all
04:24 of those questions the reason you have a list prepared is because by the end of
04:28 the interview there is a very high chance that the majority of your
04:31 questions will already have been answered but this way you guarantee that
04:35 you will have at least a handful of questions left over that you can ask and
04:39 it is totally fine to bring out that piece of paper during an interview and
04:43 ask those questions so let's recap prepare by researching the company and
04:48 crafting stories that align with their needs nail the first impression with
04:53 confidence eye contact and genuine connection build that rapport close
04:59 strong by asking thoughtful questions that show you're serious about the role
05:05 and the longevity that you want to have within that role the next time you walk
05:09 into an interview remember you're not just answering questions you're building
05:14 a connection and showing them why you are the perfect fit if this helped hit
05:20 the like button and subscribe for more tips to reshape your career and hey let
05:24 me know in the comments what's your biggest interview fear i might just be
05:29 able to talk about it next time
