In this solo episode of Career Reshaped, Pauline walks you through seven key signs it might be time to move on — even if things look fine on the surface.

Whether you’re feeling stuck, undervalued, drained, or just not excited to start your day anymore, Pauline helps you unpack what those feelings could actually be telling you. It’s a thoughtful, honest look at the early clues we often ignore when something’s off at work.

You’ll hear gentle but practical guidance on how to tune into your gut, challenge the guilt that can keep you stuck, and start thinking more clearly about what you really want next. Discussion Overview

It’s normal to feel unsure when thinking about quitting. You might ask yourself if you’re being dramatic or if the problem lies within you. Sometimes, you wait, hoping things will get better on their own. The episode highlights how these feelings are common but stresses the importance of not ignoring clear signs that it’s time for a change.
- Feeling undervalued or unappreciated: When your hard work is ignored or taken for granted, it can hurt your motivation and happiness.
- Toxic work environment or poor management: If your workplace is negative, stressful, or your boss is unsupportive, it can affect your well-being.
- No growth or learning opportunities: Being stuck in a job with no chance to develop skills or move forward can make you feel trapped.
- Negative impact on your health: If your job causes you stress, anxiety, or physical health problems, it’s a serious warning sign.
- Dreading going to work: Feeling anxious, unhappy, or unmotivated every day is a clear sign the job isn’t right for you.
- Unclear expectations: Not knowing what’s expected or feeling confused about your role can create frustration.
- Mismatch with your values: When your personal beliefs and the company’s culture don’t align, it’s hard to feel connected or satisfied.
The episode encourages you to take an honest look at your feelings and situation. Instead of waiting for things to magically get better, it’s important to actively reflect on these signs. Understanding them clearly helps you make confident, thoughtful decisions about your career—whether that means quitting or finding ways to improve your current job.

0:57 you start to wonder is it me or am I being dramatic are you the problem am I
1:03 the problem or maybe you're just waiting for something magical to happen for
1:10 things to just get better on their own and you know what sometimes you're lucky
1:15 and it does sometimes your manager is fired and a new manager comes along and
1:20 they're amazing but do you really want to sit around and wait for your manager
1:24 to be let go really what's the chances of that so reality is whilst believing
1:32 in magic is lovely let's live in reality the reality is is that you're not happy
1:38 in your workplace something is not going right and you're questioning it whether
1:43 you're questioning yourself it doesn't matter the point is you're questioning
1:48 it so if you are stuck with should I stay or should I go this video is indeed
1:55 for you so let's break down the seven real clear warning signs that it is
2:01 probably time to move on from your job and find something bigger and better
2:08 warning sign one you're always complaining after work you get home and
2:14 the first thing that comes out of your mouth is let me tell you about what
2:18 Karen did today or maybe it's your boss or another coworker or maybe it's your
2:25 manager that has been bothering you perhaps it's a client or perhaps it's
2:31 the broken processes the toxic environment that you are living
2:38 and breathing again and again and again maybe it is simply just the work the
2:45 work is hard it's numbing it's It is driving you insane and you just can't
2:53 look at one more report so if your postwork conversations are 90% venting
2:59 ranting or emotional decompression that's not
3:05 just your normal everyday stress that's chronic dissatisfaction we all have bad
3:10 days it's okay to have a bad day a bad day does not sum up the
3:18 entire vibe and energy of your overall experience working somewhere but if the
3:27 bad days are constant and every now and then we have a good day that's the
3:33 problem your job shouldn't follow you home every night and if your loved ones
3:40 can predict your complaints before you even open your mouth that is your red
3:45 flag do we need any more warning signs perhaps not but let's continue warning
3:51 sign number two you dread going to work does the sound of your morning alarm
3:58 trigger instant existential dread do you start mentally counting the days until
4:04 the weekend every Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday do you basically live
4:13 for the weekends that's the question the daily feeling of a not again isn't
4:20 something that you have to live with yes every job has hard days but if you
4:26 never feel energized or excited or feel that your work has purpose or meaning
4:33 then it's just not a rough patch that's a sign and does Sunday night bring upon
4:39 anxiety that's not just the Sunday scaries that is your brain telling you
4:45 that this environment might not be right for you anymore perhaps it never even
4:51 was right for you to begin with warning sign number three you're bored you're
4:56 checked out or just over it let's keep it real if you're watching this video
5:02 during your work hours that says a lot that should tell
5:06 you everything so whether you're scrolling on social media daydreaming
5:11 all day about something else anything else other than focusing on the work
5:17 that you're doing or you're feeling a disconnect from your
5:21 tasks boredom is not laziness it is a lack of alignment if
5:28 the work doesn't challenge you in any way doesn't excite you you're not
5:34 growing from it you feel like you're basically going backwards you'll slowly
5:40 start to slip into apathy and that is a dangerous zone to be in warning sign
5:47 four you know you're about to be let go i know that's a horrible feeling but
5:52 you're seeing the signs layoffs teams are shrinking sudden
5:58 restructuring meetings are quieter leadership is vague morale is basically
6:04 down and deep down you know your job is probably next look here's why this
6:12 matters it is always better to leave on your own terms than be forced out not
6:19 only does it give you control of the story but it allows you to buy time time
6:24 that you need to look for new job you do not want to wait until the last minute
6:31 when you are asked to pack up your bags and go and then you are stuck without
6:37 employment and it could take time to find a new role now there's no shame in
6:42 being let go and layoffs happen all the time especially in today's economy there
6:48 is nothing wrong with that and and that's an easy thing to explain in an
6:53 interview it's not because you let go because you are incompetent and unable
6:57 to perform but the company has restructured that is common and
7:02 understandable but wouldn't it be better to find a job and have something secure
7:07 to walk into before you are asked to leave instead of sitting at home looking
7:14 for work and not having income to fall back on these are just my career
7:19 suggestions for you but if you are sensing that it is time to move on then
7:25 don't wait move on before we get into the nitty-gritty of this topic we just
7:30 wanted to check in and say that if you believe that you need some assistance

7:42 subscribing to the podcast is the best way to support the show and ensure you
7:48 never miss an episode it's super easy just click the subscribe button whenever
7:54 you're listening thanks for tuning in warning sign number five if you feel
7:58 stuck and hopeless another horrible feeling let's be honest but you stop
8:04 dreaming you can't see yourself growing anymore in that role and company you've
8:12 pretty much hit the ceiling there or worse you never saw a ladder to begin
8:17 with you were never even given the opportunity to grow now this might be
8:23 okay for some who are content and happy with where they are they don't want to
8:28 grow any further but if you are somebody who wants to evolve beyond the position
8:34 that you're currently in then perhaps you need to take that goal and vision
8:39 elsewhere if there is no vision for where this role can take you and no path
8:46 being offered to help you to level up then it's not a career
8:51 it's becomes a cage again you're not lazy you're just being
8:57 stretched and that stifles creativity motivation and eventually
9:03 your mental health because you are not feeling fulfilled or like you've
9:09 bringing purpose to yourself and the role warning sign number six you've
9:15 become complacent you keep telling yourself "This job is fine for now i'll
9:20 wait and see how things go i don't have time to look right now but let's be
9:25 honest these aren't facts these are fears disguised as logic there is a
9:32 bigger difference between comfortable and being complacent comfort feels safe
9:38 i get that but complacency feels stuck and often why stay stuck we stay stuck
9:47 not because the job is good enough but because we're afraid of something new we
9:54 are comfortable in our comfort zone and but that is why it's called a comfort
10:00 zone you don't grow when you're comfortable warning
10:05 sign you're not treated like a person a lot of managers they can't be sucky and
10:11 you feel like a number on a spreadsheet listen up you deserve feedback you
10:17 deserve growth and recognition not you do not deserve constant
10:24 micromanagement silenced ignored in meetings and to be made to feel less
10:29 than as if you bring no value to the company a good leader will challenge you
10:38 and help you grow if your manager isn't invested in your success or worse
10:44 doesn't know what success even looks like to you because they haven't even
10:48 had the time to sit down and find out and talk and listen to your career goals
10:55 well then you need to find someone else who will work is personal and if you are
11:00 not treated like a human you don't owe anyone your loyalty
11:06 in return so what now now how many of these signs hit home we talked about a
11:12 lot of different reasons and circumstances that one could be in are
11:18 you ticking any of them are you ticking more than one of them now that tells me
11:22 that you might be in a tough season right now but if you're ticking all of
11:28 them oh I am so sorry and it is indeed time to move on i know you might be
11:35 thinking "But I just can't quit i've got bills i have a family i've got
11:39 commitments totally fair understand that and quitting recklessly isn't the answer
11:46 and that is not at all what I am promoting here but having a planned exit
11:53 is the smart move start by first identifying what skills that you need to
12:00 move on do you have any gaps between you and that role that you really want if
12:06 you do start building those skills to get you across the line look into roles
12:13 that align with your strengths and interests research the companies before
12:19 you even interview with them if the companies have bad employee reviews then
12:24 you'll just be jumping from one bad situation to another ensure that you
12:29 update your resume and refresh your LinkedIn get everything aligned and
12:36 ready to start looking another great thing to do is networking start building
12:42 those networks and start testing the waters see what the industry looks like
12:48 what does the market look like are there great opportunities and then apply put
12:53 yourself out there look you don't have to leap tomorrow but you do have to take
12:59 the steps and stop pretending that everything is fine your job should
13:05 energize you not drain you it should challenge you not stop you and the
13:11 company that you work for should value your time not waste it so if this has
13:15 resonated with you leave a comment and tell me what's your biggest red flag
13:21 right now and if you are ready to make your next big move hit the subscribe
